Born and raised in Vancouver, Dr. Chen earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of British Columbia. He then attended the New England College of Optometry in Boston where he completed his Doctor of Optometry degree. During his studies he also conducted research in binocular vision and concurrently earned a Master of Science in Vision Science. He received extensive clinical training throughout the United States in primary care, ocular disease, specialty contact lenses, vision therapy, and pediatrics. In the Boston area he interned at the NECO Center for Eye Care, South Boston Community Health Center, and Lynn Community Health Center. He also completed externships with the US Department of Veterans Affairs at the Portland VA Medical Center in Oregon and the Northport VA Medical Center in New York. For his specialty externship, Dr. Chen trained in vision therapy and rehabilitation at PressVision in New Jersey.
Dr. Chen can perform eye exams in both English and Mandarin. He is certified by the National Board of Examiners in Optometry and is a member of the College of Optometrists of Ontario.
